Naples Security Solutions Discusses Community Policing and Calls For Service in SWFL

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Naples police responded to 910 calls to the Naples Pier from 911 operators between August 2015 and August 2016.

In Cape Coral, police calls to the VA Clinic totaled 973.

But in Fort Myers, officers responded to calls from the Harlem Lakes neighborhood more than 3,000 times.

“We’re embracing the opportunity to deal with it, to push it away, and stop it,” Fort Myers Mayor Randy Henderson said.

One way to address a large number of neighborhood emergency calls is community policing, said Chris Knotts, co-founder of Naples Security Solutions and a former Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

“If their bottom line and their goal is a safe community, one that is free of violence and drugs and crime, it’s going to require law enforcement to come in and have a greater presence,” he said.

Fort Myers city officials plan to install surveillance cameras in the Harlem Lakes area in the near future.

“We can create another sense of feeling safe, being able to position the city in a ways to catch perpetrators who are making those threats to our citizens,” Henderson said.

Other areas with the most 911 calls include Edison Mall in Fort Myers (over 1,500 calls) and Coastland Center Mall in Naples (over 1,000 calls).
