While you were on Facebook this weekend, you may have noticed hundreds of your friends sending strange messages claiming they got a fake friend request from you.

It turns out, the viral warning message was just a hoax.

You may have gotten the message and even forwarded it to friends.

The mysterious message is urging people to check their accounts.

“I had a friend in North Carolina who sent me a message,” said Marc Collins of Fort Myers.

After he had received about thirty to forty of the same message, he finally realized something was up.

“The latest scam is nothing more than a message forwarding scam,” says Mike Perl. He’s the managing partner of Naples Security Solutions.

Perl is one of the managing partners of Naples Security Solutions, and he said if you get this latest hacking hoax, the best thing to do is ignore it.

“Cloned accounts are a real thing, and it does happen. But usually, you won’t see it on the scale of this latest message forwarding scam,” Perl added.

Facebook officials confirm the hacking hoax isn’t the real deal and we talked to countless people today who got the message making its rounds.
